fall break ahoy!

Off to Kentucky again in a few hours and I will be there relaxing until Tuesday. Maybe there'll be a skillet pecan pie in the deal too. Then it's a hop, skip and a jump until I am home for Thanksgiving, a few weeks until finals, and then Christmas! Cheers to you from an optimistic speed-calendar!

Here is a Mary Oliver poem for you, courtesy of a book my friend Jessina lent me the other day. Jessina, by the way, has a darling and delightful blog here that is both soothing for the mind and the soul. She often posts a Mary Oliver poem and they are just wonderful.

Another lovely blog is my Tante Gretchen's, here, which chronicles observations from her beautiful and remote home in Sierraville, CA.

The Old Poets of China, Mary Oliver

Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe
that I do not want it. Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.

  1. Love the cowboy boot. I looked at an adorable pair in Mendocino the other weekend, but not quite ready to move forth. Oh, and thanks for the blog plug too.
