pip pip, cheerio!

Four days in the lake district spent row-boating, hiking the fells, napping, reading, skinny-dipping and visiting the homes of Wordsworth and the Bronte sisters. And despite my general readiness to be home, it was the best part of the trip. Beautiful green, intriguing stone walls strung along the hills and mountains, and lake after lake of clear cool water surrounded by picturesque towns with lovely names (Ambleside, Grasmere, etc). The lake district is full of Kendall Mint Cake, hikers and sheep dogs, dilapidated stone barns and European tourists. I even spent a few minutes in a hiking store petting a collie belonging to a stranger, who looked exactly like my silky dog at home - a grey and white blue merl lounging on the floor (the dog, not the stranger).

Tomorrow I fly out of Heathrow back to the states for a few weeks, and am all packed (mostly sure my suitcase makes the weight - but my carry-on weighs about 80 lbs) and ready to go.

I would like to include more photographs, and a Wordsworth quote or two, but I am sleepy and tucked into my bed at St. Anne's, ready for rest, so I will just shut down my computer and post when I get home!

Good-bye England, hiya California.

  1. Torunn!! I've been gone most of July, but am just getting caught up. So glad you enjoyed the Lake District--I remember coming away just in love with that place (and have, sadly, never been back since). I can't wait to hear more about your trip. Loved your posts!
