plumming in the afternoon

Starting the day with lemon poppyseed and oatmeal-cranberry scones fresh from my mother's oven and then some sewing, I scooted down to the beach for an afternoon with Kristin and Sarah. We stayed and read for an hour or so, but it was too windy so we walked back to Sarah's lawn to chat some more. An enormous plum tree shadows Sarah's back yard, and Kristin and I decided to pick some as Sarah doesn't eat them. After much practice with a hoe and a brown paper bag for catching, we got a bag full (a plum war with the fallen squishy ones delayed our success a little bit). Plumming also provided peels of laughter and a promise to return next August.

I have eaten
the plums
in the icebox

which you were
probably
saving for breakfast

forgive me,
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.
