a few haiku

Chrysanthemum growers -
you are the slaves
of chrysanthemums!

- BUSON

Moon, plum blossoms,
this, that,
and the day goes.

-ISSA

As for the hibiscus
on the roadside -
my horse ate it.

-BASHō

I left most of my books of poetry in storage back at school, but my mom also has a copy of The Essential Haiku. Reading a haiku is like being able to hold a single perfect visual in your hand, and dwell on just that. So I love them. The photograph I took walking back to school from downtown Wheaton. There is an enormous willow tree in a ditch across the street from one of the churches, and someone had tied a single paper crane to the tip of one of the branches. As the breeze rifled the tree, the crane flew amongst the leaves.
