to a poor old woman, William Carlos Williams

munching a plum on
the street a paper bag
of them in her hand

They taste good to her
They taste good
to her. They taste
good to her

You can see it by
the way she gives herself
to the one half
sucked out in her hand

Comforted
a solace of ripe plums
seeming to fill the air
They taste good to her

I received two (count them: TWO!) care packages today, one from grandmamma containing beautiful socks and headbands, and one from Gretchen containing incredibly buttery and delicious french button cookies. I am sitting at my desk as the snow swirls outside with warm feet and an amused bouche. I also received a lovely postcard from my mamma yesterday, so overall this has been an exciting mail week. And tomorrow is Friday! I am listening peacefully and delightedly to my newest playlist: the Ladies in Lavender soundtrack*, Jack Johnson, Bebo Norman, Alison Krauss and Norah Jones. I am safe from the cold winds in here.

*Worth purchasing. Joshua Bell's violin is incomparable.
