Malena graduated from high school, (an SLV graduation complete with Fleetwood Mac, kazoos, and about eleven speeches) and I am home to have seen her walk (beautifully) and to be at her party tonight. Our house is full of blue and red and pink balloons, beautiful flowers, assorted family members, the sound of vegetables being chopped and summery breezes.
Le petit-amis drove up to see me and spend time with the family also this weekend (lovely) and it has been so beautiful in Santa Cruz! Especially thinking that back in Illinois . . .

- The garden needs rabbit-proofing
- We have to get rid of our old fridge and figure out how to plug in the one sitting in our living room
- Work work work
- Laundry left in dryer (whoops)
- One roommate moved out and on to seattle (sigh)
- Boyfriend away for another whole week
- Either it will be pouring rain or very, very humid
Fortunately the garden is also so fun, we have a beautiful new lawn, I am investing in bocce ball, there is a list of recipes I need to make (and actually have ingredients for!) and an equally long list of friends and family to have over for dinner. It is so nice to finally feel settled at work, and I enjoy it, and to have a routine down for the summer. I cannot believe a month has passed already since I graduated, and life is still moving forward so quickly.
I have been reading (and finished on the plane flight here) Marilynne Robinson's Housekeeping, which was lulling and intriguing.
“Ascension seemed at such times a natural law. If one added to it a law of completion - that
everything must finally be made comprehensible - then some general rescue of the sort I imagined
my aunt to have undertaken would be inevitable. For why do our thoughts turn to some gesture of
a hand, the fall of a sleeve, some corner of a room on a particular anonymous afternoon, even
when we are asleep, and even when we are so old that our thoughts have abandoned other
business? What are all these fragments for , if not to be knit up finally?”
Hmmmm.
